Our New Boats
New for this season are some new boats and fancy bits of kit. We get asked about the boats quite often and surprisingly many find all the geekery interesting, so we’ve pulled together what we have so you can have a read. If you don’t like boats, this blog post is not for you.
Open Ribs – Cat 4
Our two open RIBS are rigid inflatables they are coded cat 4.
The hulls are tubes are made by world renown manufactures; HUMBER based in HULL in the UK. The boats are then fitted out by Quinnquarri marine in Wales and finally are maintained and upgraded by Rock Marine services in Cornwall.
Our open RIBS are powered by Suzuki 250 DFS v6 4 stroke outboard, these are the top-of-the-line commercial outboard engines and give us amazing power and reliability.
New for this season is another 10 meter RIB.
Electronics
We carry AIS Transponders installed on vessels transmit ship position, course, speed, heading, vessel type and dimensional data over dedicated VHF channels. Transponders, sometimes referred to as Transceivers, send and receive AISAIS (Automatic Identification system) is an automated tracking system for marine vessels, Aids to navigation and AIS MOB beacons.
Water Taxi – Cat 6
Our 4th vessel is our Water Taxi, which is a 10-meter draw bridge landing craft powered by twin jets.
Safety and Capacity
All our vessels carry 2 life rafts, 1 x 12 person, and 1 x 4 person, as well as a full set of safety equipment and are coded to category 4.
All our vessels are licenced to carry 12 passenger and 2 crew.
Skippers
Our skippers are highly qualified, the minimum qualification our skippers hold is a commercial endorsed advanced power boat, sea survival qualification, VHF radio ticket, first aid at sea, local mariners test and marine medical. All our skippers have extensive experience sea, several of us are RNLI crew, helmsmen and/or work as part of the lifeboat, we also have skippers who have previously worked as Helicopter pilots, offshore rigs, maritime police, and boarder force.
Andy Cameron
He started this shamble, but has spent his life in and on the water, he is a helmsman on the Port Isaac lifeboat and has been part of the crew for 20 years.
Will Owen
RYA trainer, Rock Lifeboat DLA.
Mark Woodward
Ex Royal marine and retired commercial helicopter pilot.
Luke Tomlinson
Recently retired from the Royal Navy, Port Isaac RNLI crew and training to be a doctor.
Ian Johnson
Port Isaac lifeboat Helmsmen and Crew.
Ormy McWilliam
Rock lifeboat crewmen, sailing instructor
Jake Woodward
Transatlantic sailor, and super yacht crewmen, also Andy’s next door neighbour.
David Booker
Merchant Navy and Officer of the watch.
Steve Dredge
Retired Marine Police officer
Rob Stott
Master 2000, and ex RYA examiner.
