Are surfboards included in the price of the lessons?
Yes, surfboards are included in the price of your lessons.
Are wetsuits included in the price of the lessons?
Yes, wetsuits are included in the price of your lesson.
Do you have changing facilities at Watergate Bay?
We do! We have indoor private changing cubicles, lockers for your personal belongings and hot showers to wash away the salty water after your lesson.
How many surf lessons would it take me to stand up?
There is no definitive answer to this question as everyone is unique. However, we would hope to get everyone standing and getting a bit of a feel for the sport that we love so much in the first session. We suggest having a number of lessons to improve on stability, control, turning and length of ride.
What is the youngest age you can teach surfing?
Within a private session we have had as young as 3! However, we would recommend 6 or 7 is a good age for starting out. We do have an age restriction on our group lessons of 7 years old to allow the Instructor to spread their time more evenly across the group. During a private lesson we can accept any age. We also ask that a parent or teacher is available on shoreline for younger students.
When can/should I move onto a smaller board that I can duck dive and paddle outback?
We would highly recommend sticking to bigger foam boards until you have learned how to turn left and right on a smaller green waves. Moving onto smaller boards too soon can really hinder and hold back the speed of your improvement.
What is the best tide to surf at Polzeath beach?
We are lucky to be able to run our lessons on Polzeath, as due to how flat the beach is we can teach throughout the tidal range.
Do your Surf Lessons go ahead even if it’s raining?
Our sessions will go ahead whatever the weather however, in the unlikely event the beach is red flagged for safety reasons by the lifeguards or we feel that it is unsafe, we will postpone your session to a time that suits you or offer a refund.
How long is my surf lesson?
Surf lessons are two hours long.
Is equipment included for surf/SUP lessons?
Yes, we provide all equipment and leaving extra time before your session to get ready is recommended.

We both had a great session with a good grounding of the basics and some technical tips. Lovely beach location.

Two fantastic improver lessons with Meg! Thoroughly enjoyed both lessons, learned bundles and feel like I really progressed!

My boyfriend and I were slightly nervous about surfing as we hadn’t done anything like it before but thought we couldn’t come to Cornwall and not try surfing. We had nothing to worry about, the instructors were fantastic and really explained the basics well. Before we knew it we were loving our time in the sea and within one lesson could stand up for a whole second. We cant wait to get back out into that sea after our muscles have stopped aching, its a great fun way to work out your whole body.

Had a beginners surf lesson on the 26th of June 2017 courtesy of a birthday present from my Wife (58 already !). The two instructors, Jo’ and Tamsin were excellent, not only covering all elements of how to get up on your board (which all of our group managed) but some good knowledge of how waves form, the potential danger of rip tides and overall safety advise. They stayed with the group whilst in the sea and were on hand to give advise and recommendations to enable us to at least get a real taste for the sport. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We were nervous when we arrived at the surf school, my wife is not a strong swimmer, the guys put as totally at ease and we even managed to stand up (for a second!) we booked for one session and upgraded to the three day course. So much fun and such a great location.

Our boys (7&5) have been learning with Wavehunters for the last two years and have loved it. They can’t wait for half term so they can get back in the surf!

Our daughter had her first ever surf lesson and experience of surfing……. something she loved so much, got her standing up on the board! Great instructions and guidance from her instructor. Great value for money. Gave her confidence and an amazing experience.

The surf lesson was great fun! Johnny was friendly and full of energy, which helped me feel confident and enthused about the experience. There were seven of us in the group which felt like a reasonable number of people to be teaching at one time, and the two hour session made me feel much more positive about attempting it alone next time.

Andy and the team had all our kids standing up within 30 mins of the lesson starting. Our kids (range 5-8) enjoyed their relaxed style and their use of other games kept everyone warm and engaged throughout the two hours. I watched from the beach with my 3 year old but would have preferred to have got stuck in with some of the other parents who either took part in the lesson or were just getting involved. I didn’t think my five year old would stick it out but she did – thanks wave hunters!

Jack and his team were brilliant. Jack managed to engaged the various ages of our family: from a reluctant teenager, enthusiastic adolescent, unsure 10 year old and middle aged mother. We all were able to enjoy the waves and thinking of coming back for more. Even my 70 year old mother enjoyed chatting to the ‘guys’ in the hut and playing with the surfing spaniel Lola.
