How to Hire Your Surfboard
Hiring a hard or foam surfboard is a simple and easy process with Wavehunters. You can book your gear online in advance, selecting your wetsuit size and the rental dates and collect right at the beach.
Or hire directly on the beach, just come find our surf school at Polzeath or Watergate bay, bring a form of ID and rent there and then. We hire for 2 hours, several days or a week, giving you flexible options.
Our foam surfboard hires start at £25 per day, and our hard surfboard hires start at £30 per day.
On the day, just bring your confirmation and a form of ID to collect your suited board and get straight into the water.

We offer a range of surfboard sizes including shortboards, funboards, and longboards in various sizes.
Is a hard surfboard suitable for a complete beginner?
Hard boards are best for surfers with some experience. Complete beginners usually find foam boards easier and safer since they are softer and catch waves more easily
What is the difference between a hard board and a soft board?
Hard boards are more performance-focused, for when you have mastered the fundamentals. While soft boards are more stable, forgiving, and beginner-friendly. They make it easier to catch the waves.
What is your damage policy for hard surfboard hire?
Normal wear is covered, but you may be charged for significant damage. We’ll always explain the policy clearly before hire.
Can I hire a board for multiple days or a full week?
Yes, hard surfboards or soft foam surfboards can be hired for multiple days or a full week.
Are soft surfboards for beginners?
Yes, soft boards are ideal for beginners due to their stability, safety and ease of catching waves whilst learning to progress skills.
Can I hire the surfboard overnight?
Yes, overnight and multi-day softboard or hardboard hire is available.
What size of soft surfboard should I choose?
Our team will help you choose the right size based on your height, and ability.
Can I take a soft surfboard out in any surf conditions?
Soft boards are best in small to moderate surf. Avoid very large or rough conditions.
Can children hire soft surfboards independently?
Children can hire soft boards, but they must be supervised by a responsible adult.
Do you run out of surfboards during the day or can I show up anytime?
We usually have plenty of boards available, but during busy periods it’s best to arrive early or book ahead.
