Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world and Wavehunters Surf School is one of the first schools in the UK to teach stand up paddle boarding. We offer flat water lessons, introduction to wave sessions, as well as advanced technique lessons. Paddleboarding has proven to be a great core strength exercise that has the benefits of relaxtion and discovering the coastline or an invigorating workout with the exhilaration of surfing.

Flat water SUPing is very accessible to almost anyone. The boards are larger, more buoyant, and more stable. Standing up and paddling offers you a much better view than if you were kayaking. On clear summer days you can look down through the water to see fish, jellyfish, starfish, and all that lurks in the seaweed whereas in Winter you’re more likely to come up close and personal with dolphins and seals. This exercise utilises muscles you wouldn’t ordinarily use so expect quite a workout! Flat water SUPing is great for your core, a great social, and way more motivating than the gym.
SUPing in the surf is an addictive exhilaration that is taking the world of watersports by storm. Not only do the bigger boards pick up the smallest of waves with ease, using a paddle means you can get into waves a lot earlier than normal surfers. Having a paddle means you can get through the flat/fat spots in waves (Polzeath!) and finish your rides at the end of the wave. Furthermore there is no need to learn how to pop-up on a wobbly board as you start in a standing position. With all this being said SUPing is a very technical sport and only with guidance can you safely learn how to progress safely and adhere to the surfers’ code of conduct. These lessons will require booking in advance as they are very condition dependent.
