The Shed Shop is no more - but watch this space, well the one left at Port Gaverne to be more accurate!

Steve & Andy dismantle the Beach Shop at Port Gaverne

The shed has come down - but we hope this is not a permanent removal. Behind the scenes there are negosiaions with planners and other interested parties. So we hope to be back at Port Gaverne with our Wavehunters style enterprise next season.

More water-based fun! End of season jolly.

Rory & Bertie before....... Here we go!. ............Seascape!

Fleur & Clare at Epphaven... Rory leaping.......... Rory in hot chocolate!

Our end of season day out was meant to be a gentle kayak safari so that the less brave could participate - but how wrong we were! The wind blew in from the north and the swells were about 2.5 foot. Our friend and instructor for the day, Sam Williams, of Cornish Coast Adventures, kept reminding us that he wouldn't normally take groups out in these conditions! So there we are out in the open sea about half way to our desination when the boys spot a beach with some surf on it. You guessed, we spent the rest of the afternoon surfing on the kayaks! Fleur and Clare were on a double kayak and without even trying caught the first, biggest and best wave. Not to be out done, the boys managed to get-up on their kayaks. Bertie on his single and Andy and Rory briefly on the double! By the time we headed for home, about 2.5 hours later, the sea had picked up even more and was now more in the region of 4 foot! Returning to the base at Port Quin we intrepidly stroud out for some coasteering. When we finally returned to the beach Rory compained of being 'weavered'! So we bathed his foot in the only hot liquid we had to hand, a flask of hot chocolate!

Later the whole team eat a delicious and hearty meal at The Waterfront, Polzeath. Thanks go out to James and his team for enduring such an evening, they even seemed to be enjoying themselves! And a great floorshow was laid on curtesy of TJ's Surfshop staff do! The evening was rounded off with some late drinking at Carters and miraculously everyone turned up for work on time the next day!

Andy gets into 'gigging!'

Port Isaac Rowing Club held a fun day for novices on 15th July. The boat on the left is Port Isaac RNLI and one of the boys is our boss and senior instructor Andy! Wearing shirts donated by Wavehunters which obviously helped them to row better, as they were the victorious overall!

Sir James Smith School - Grom Club visit Local Hero

Graham 'Local Hero' demonstrating his skills for the Grom Club

This week (end of June)Andy took the Grom Club for a session of surfing at Polzeath and a visit to Graham Bunt's, 'Local Hero', workshop in Wadebridge. The kids enjoyed seeing how a board is taken through all the stages of production.

Andy in Learn to Surf Video

Andy recently 'starred' in a learn to surf video which is available to view on Ann's Cottage website. It proves he really can teach and he knows what he's talking about, when comes to maximising your experience in the water.

Check it out!

Meanwhile the team on the beach so far is Andy, Bertie, Marcus and George. From June we will also have Bruce and Nikki and as soon as she joins the team there'll be new pics. Bertie and Bruce were with us last summer and through the winter in Morocco, Bertie is beach manager this season. George came to the fold in the winter out in Morocco and Marcus is an old friend from New Zealand. Nikki will be fresh to us but she is suitabley qualified, not only will she be an asset but can redress the balance slightly of the macho aspect of our team!

Wavehunters splash out on a new WATER TAXI!

Andy launches Wavehunters new venture - Water Taxiing!

Andy - Lifboatman, senior surf instructor and living 20 metres from the sea, allows our newly signwritten company vehicle to float around the harbour over night. But miraculously it was firstly dug out of the sand, then towed off the beach and the engine started straight away! Some people fall in the proverbial muck and come out smelling of roses. In this case the van sank in the sand and came out smelling of seaweed!!

ASA Morocco - end of season, Boo, Hoo!

Yes, the door has been sealed on our Moroccan villa 'til the autumn when we will be venturing forth once more for another exciting season of sun, sand and surf, surf, surf !

Say goodbye to 'Boom' our friendly camel - we'll be back!

The Animal Surf Academy is now back in the UK and based as per usual at Polzeath. But there is also the new venture of Newquay too. Contact Overhead surf for more details of Newquay at: www.overheadsurf.co.uk.

Back at Polzeath - let the sun shine in!

Paddle round the Pier - Brighton 7th - 8th July 2007

They are expecting around 5000 visitors this year and are deemed to be the biggest watersports charity event in the UK! There's loads more information on the website www.paddleroundthepier.com of the various events to get involved in, and it is all in aid of three very good causes - SurfAid international, The RNLI and the local Children's Hospital. Any support would be appreciated.

Bishop Bill visits the Animal Surf Academy

Tommy fixing Bishop Bill with a wetsuit

The Bishop of Truro had a trip to Polzeath to dedicate a new wheelchair which will be available to members of the public to enable them to have access to the beach, last week (11th April). The specially designed chair was purchased using money raised by local charities and businesses. While in Polzeath Bishop Bill donned a Gul wetsuit from the Animal Surf Academy and took his trusty wooden body board for a surf!

Dubai Beach

There is a great beach currently open to the public, now developers are planning to build on it and taking it away from Expat and Locals. Our very good friend Isabelle lives in Dubai and is running a petition to save the beach.

There is an online petition to gather as many signatures as possible.
Please add yours by clicking on the link below and filling the simple form on the right of the page - it will not take more than 1 minute and you can also leave a message.

http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/savejumeirah

Isabelle is also planning to have a petition on the beach for all those that do not have access to the internet - especially the old generation of locals born and raised in Jumeirah.

Finally, we would like to ask you a favour: please feel free to pass this info on to all your friends and family that care and are willing to sign.

Wavehunters Sponsors Quninnian Trust Triathalon, August

The whole course – 4.7-mile cycle, 2.5 mile run and 500m swim.  Starts inland at Trelill and ends at Port Quin.  14 teams and 8 individuals took part all provided with our T-shirts! The competition was hot and the winners from last year, Port Isaac, found it hard to keep their lead. Team GB finished in first place whilst Port Quin came in 2nd and Port Isaac 3rd. (Andy did the swimming for the Port Isaac team! Dave the cycle and Faye the run.)

Wavehunters team help out after Tsunami

Nick Cameron, part of the Wavehunter family went out to Sri lanka to help out after the tsunami. "people had lost everything, but i thought that just alittle effort might help" Nick managed a team of local builders and built several houses. Sadly there was no time for Nick

to catch a wave. Nick is now living with his brother at the wavehunters HQ in Port Isaac. He has his own bussiness www.wellstuffed.com selling cornish hampers.

RNLI Fun Day at Port Isaac, August

The weather was good and the day well attended with locals and visitors.  The crowd was treated to a display from the rescue helicopter from RNAS Coldrose.  This picture does have a member of the RNLI crew from Port Isaac being winched aboard, hope you can see them! Wavehunters also sponsored a paddle race for the smaller children with the winner receiving Wavehunters clothing.  Other activites included egg throwing competions, local bands playing, Pimms bar and a variety of stalls.

Wavehunters new aquisition! July

Wavehunters UK Ltd also splashed out on a company yacht this summer, not quite a 'Princess' but with the lobster pots that came with it many a tasty supper was had. So when andy's not surfing he a 'proper' Cornish fisherman.  As you can see he's got the hang of it already!

These are the pots Andy is supposed to be putting out!

Camper Van Stuck, August

This is what happens when you don't read the traffic signs at the top of Port Isaac village! The vehicle was stuck there for nearly half an hour and none of us could get to the pasty shop!
